3. What makes Freedom Station different from government programs?
Quite often people ask this since it is assumed that the government is expected to take care of every need of our military members. Forgotten in this formula is the necessity of helping our military members readapt to the civilian ranks, and to the ability to have productive careers through education, and adaptive counseling.
Military experience is invaluable, (if you are in the military)…but it is here the line is drawn. We will be placing injured warriors in an environment that is transitional from the military to civilian, where learning is a necessity for landing that job that will provide for him/her and their family.
Our heroes have had to face excruciating pain both mentally and physically. Progress and healing has usually been slow and tedious, but given the mentoring and guidance they need for themselves and their families, we will have brought them to their potential, regardless of disability.
4. Can I donate things like computers, furniture, or vehicles?
At this time we are searching for help with funding of the acquisition and preparing of the facility. When operations get close to beginning we will be able to use some of these things, especially transportation vehicles for moving our warriors to the various med clinics, doctors, and training facilities.
Right now your generous donation will be of immense help. Please sign up on our membership page, and we will be in contact with you in the future.
5. Can I help someway in my home state?
Our military heroes can always use and appreciate your help no matter where home happens to be. Freedom Station will have it’s beginning in San Diego, CA, and our long-term vision is to have many of these centers throughout the country. We would appreciate your investment in our long-term plan…by helping us now; it will help us achieve our vision later at other Freedom Station Centers.
6. Is this program for all Veterans or just those from current combat? The single most important criteria are a combat or active duty injury causing military retirement, or medical discharge with honorable service.
We value every military veteran’s service, but we see and feel the need right now that the ‘War on Terror’ has wrought havoc on our military due to the frequency of explosive injuries, roadside bombs, enormous mental strain, etc. All have taken their toll in head and brain injuries, amputations, burns, broken bones, and post traumatic stress. So these type injuries would be considered a priority. On the other hand, if we have a severely injured non-combat injury that occurs with an active duty military man or women, we would of course consider their application. Don’t forget, Freedom Station will provide counseling, information, and guidance to any of our injured military vets that need it.
7. How are our military warriors selected for Freedom Station?
Recommendations for residence will be made through the local military hospital, and/or medical center treating their injuries. Entry considerations will be made according to:
- Severity of injury
- Doctor’s opinion of warrior’s needs
- Attitude and wants of the warrior
- Board consideration of merit medical and otherwise
It is without question that each injured warrior will be considered on an equal basis, without regard to race, religion, ethnicity, or gender. Our out reach patient services such as counseling, job search, information and directions, and other services will be available to all combat injured veterans of the War on Terror.
